By securing the Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license in Dubai, Binance Holdings Ltd. has accomplished a major milestone. This accomplishment showcases Binance’s dedication to successfully negotiating the complex regulatory environment while relentlessly expanding its worldwide footprint.
To ensure compliance with legal requirements and to facilitate the effortless acquisition of the license, co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) strategically decided to transfer his voting power in the local corporation, as part of the arrangement.
Major Milestone Achieved
Chief Executive Officer Richard Teng confirmed the issuance of the license in a recent interview with Bloomberg. Binance has strengthened its position as the world’s biggest crypto exchange, and Teng’s recognition of this progress emphasizes the significance of this achievement for Binance.
It should be mentioned that Binance’s Dubai affiliate had already obtained an Operational Minimum Viable Product (MVP) license, which was a prerequisite for obtaining the full VASP license. The ensuing accomplishment was made possible by this MVP license, which allowed customers to access regulated virtual asset services in line with Dubai’s regulatory criteria.
Clearing Dubai’s VASP licensing requirements hasn’t been an easy feat. Binance FZE, the Dubai-based subsidiary, has been providing broker-dealer and exchange services under Operational MVP licenses since the middle of 2023.
On the other hand, giving up some control of the Dubai business and other concessions were necessary to get the full VASP license. This strategic step was crucial for meeting regulatory requirements and staying in line with agreements reached with US authorities.
Binance, led by CEO Richard Teng, has shown resilience and adaptability in the face of regulatory challenges. Not only has the exchange persisted through regulatory hurdles, but it has also strengthened its compliance efforts and expanded its products.
